Justice and sons
How we got here:
Wheels of Justice Cyclery has its roots in the Montclair district of Oakland. In 1993, Montclair Sporting Goods expanded its bike department into an independent bike shop under the name "Montclair Sports Cyclery." Justice Baxter soon started working at the shop, learning bike retailing and service before going off to college, although he came back to work during summers and holidays.
After graduating, Justice returned to manage Montclair Sports Cyclery for another year before purchasing the shop in 2002, fulfilling his dream of owning his own bike shop. He renamed the shop Wheels of Justice Cyclery which is, of course, a play on his own name but also represents the balance that seems to be missing from the bicycle retail experience when compared to the fun of cycling itself. In his own words, Justice wanted to "create an environment where customers can come and enjoy the process of purchasing a bike or being served as much as they enjoy cycling."
Justice owned the shop with Dan Watson, with whom he had worked at Montclair Sports Cyclery, as a full partner until 2011, when Dan decided to become a stay-at-home dad for his two sons Ivan and Alex.
In fall 2012, Justice purchased Solano Avenue Cyclery, adding a second location to the Wheels of Justice family. Solano Avenue Cyclery was started in 1989 by Charlie Tondu, who quickly built his small bike shop into an institution in the Albany community. As soon as the shop became part of the Wheels of Justice family, we began offering the same renowned service policies and friendly service to a whole new community of customers. We're excited to help them all with their cycling needs in the future!
